Apple removed 5000 apps today from their app store and updated their terms and conditions of approving future applications.

  1. No images of women in bikinis
  2. No images of men in bikinis
  3. No skin
  4. No silhouettes
  5. No sexual connotations or innuendo
  6. Nothing that can be sexually arousing
  7. No apps will be approved that in any way imply sexual content
What gives Apple the right? It's their app store. What if you wanted to get a app that had something listed here? You can't. Thats closed source at its best and that is what Apple is all about. They want total control and they have it. People  used to slam Bill Gates for being greedy and wanting control, Steve Jobs & Apple is so much worse.

As consumers we ultimately suffer however not for long. Google's Android is growing in popularity, I have an Android phone now. Google's Android is totally open source and I can install any application I want.

Google's open source I think will ultimately win. Steve Jobs needs a reality check and Google will give it to him.

apple-logo1.jpgThe mobile phone operating system game is really heating up. Apple's iPhone software is amazing. However its closed source meaning if you want to write an application for it you have to jump through many hoops and Apple can always say 'No'. Thats that. Apple's closed source operating system means you will never see that software on another phone not made or authorized by Apple.

Google's Android operating system however is totally open source. Meaning the source code is open and available for everyone and its totally free. This is much better for developers. Want to have your application in the Google Android Market? Submit it to Google, they may say no and not include it. However if they do you can still install it on your phone. This is the major difference between closed and open source phone operating systems.

Google and Apple both approve their applications before they hit the market to be sure they are legit and not viruses. The big deal of course is that if Apple says no, you have absolutely no options left. Android however you can just plug it into your computer and you are good to go.

Recently it was announced that the Motoroal Droid will receive Android 2.1 update. The update will be rolled out using the over the air update system. At this time no date is given other than 'soon'. Motorola and Google have been working closely together for some time to bring this update to life.

For Droid Eris users you are not forgotten, Android 2.1 is also coming although there may be a delay or an additional upgrade in between.

New features in 2.1 includes animated backgrounds which look absolutely amazing. I have seen some videos demoing the new software and it looks great. Also included is every text field is a speak-to-text field. This should make texting easier.
